Artifact #2 Animoto Training
Amie McCarty had demonstrated Animoto at one of my Digital Educator Mentee Study Group meetings this spring, and I was instantly crazy about it. I knew that staff would embrace it because of it's ease of use. So many people would like to do multimedia projects with their kids, but are overwhelmed by programs such as iMovie or Garage Band because they view them as difficult and complicated. Animoto does so much of the difficult stuff (transitions, matching to music,etc) for you that I knew it would be a huge hit!
In order to put our time to good use, the staff members that attended were asked to create a movie trailer for their department that advertised why their subject was important to the 21st Century student. We walked through each step of creating the trailer in animoto, and had some pretty good projects completed in only 45 minutes.
Staff has been very excited about using this with their students, perhaps more so than any other technology that I have trained on this school year. Stephanie Mills is going to complete animoto projects with her students starting on Monday, May 3rd and I will be there to co-teach the technology portion of the training with her. I have already worked with Susan McGuinn and co-taught animoto to her 3rd period IB students. (Their assignment was to use animoto to create a "new" soliloquy from Hamlet (ex: To study or not to study...) using text and pictures).
